In 2006, Amilcar Moreira completed a PhD in Social Policy at the University of Bath (United Kingdom). He then moved to Trinity College Dublin, where he collaborated in the preparation of The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA). In 2009, he received a Post-Doctoral Grant from the Nordic Centre of Excellence: Reassessing the NordicWelfare Model (reassess), to conduct a study on the reform of activation policies targeted at minimum income benefit recipients, in Europe and USA. Since January 2012, he received Post-Doctoral Grant from The Foundation for Science and Technology (Portugal) and has joined the Institute of Social Sciences, where as part of the Institute of Ageing team,  he develops a project on the political economy of ageing labour markets . His research focus on active social policies, poverty and social exclusion, active ageing and comparative social policy . In 2008, he published "The Activation Dilemma. Reconciling the fairness and effectiveness of minimum income schemes in Europe" (Policy Press). Together with Ivar Lodemel (Oslo & Akerhus University College ), he is working on a a new volume  on the reform of activation policies in Europe and the United States, to be published by Oxford University Press.
