João Guerra is a sociologist (Ph.D. in Social Sciences in 2011), and an assistant researcher at ICS-ULisboa. He is currently a Foreign Visiting Professor at the Postgraduate Program in Political Sociology/ Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). Until 2018 he was a post-doc fellow of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), but its connection to ICS-ULisboa dates from 1998 where he worked as a project fellow and / or employee in scientific research, mainly developed within OBSERVA - Observatory of Environment, Territory and Society. After that date, only when he was a doctoral fellow (03/2007 - 02/2011) his professional connection to ICS-ULisboa was partly interrupted. His scholarship was awarded by FCT, but his thesis and doctoral research were developed in ICS-ULisboa, under the guidance of Professor Luísa Schmidt. Thus, he is currently a member of the Research Group on Environment, Territory and Society, and of OBSERVA - Environment, Territory and Society Observatory. In 2018, he was elected to the coordinating team of the Environment and Society Thematic Section of the Portuguese Sociological Association. Outside the academy, he is also a member of the ECO XXI and ECO FREGUESIAS National Commissions since 2010. Both programs annually evaluate characteristics and practices between the Portuguese municipalities and parishes. In these areas of the environmental sociology and sustainability he is the author and co-author of several articles and books, among which the most recent are:
