Tomás Donadio
Tomás is a researcher and PhD candidate in development studies at the Institute of Social Sciences of Universidade de Lisboa, member of the research groups Urban Transitions Hub and Jararaca – Laboratory of Urban Technopolitics, team member of the research project 'UrbanoScenes: Post-colonial imaginaries of urbanization: A future-oriented investigation from Portugal and Angola' and team member of the project 'Institutionalization of Public Policy Evaluation in Portugal'. Recently, he was an assistant researcher on the project 'HOPES: Perspectives and struggles around housing. Movements, policies and residential dynamics in and beyond Lisbon', external evaluator of citizen engagement proposals for urban mobility at European level (EIT-UM, EU) and associate researcher in the department of pedestrian accessibility in public space of Lisbon Municipality. His scientific research fits the intersection between urban technopolitics, socio-spatial justice and public participation, assuming interdisciplinary character by uniting urban studies, social geography, political economy and philosophy. His doctoral thesis concentrates on the study of Lisbon as a smart city and on its social and political local implications, focusing on paradigm shifts and citizen participation. Tomás disseminates his scientific work through national and international congresses, articles published in academic journals, university classes at master's level, as well as texts for blogs and non-academic journals. The main methods and techniques of research adopted are in-depth interviews, online surveys, thematic documentary analysis, case studies and comparative analyses, preferring qualitative methodologies and constructivist and critical approaches.

Através da abordagem epistemológica comparativa e genealógica, centrada nos estudos urbanos críticos, a tese levanta hipóteses sobre novos paradigmas nos desenvolvimentos de cidades inteligentes focados na solução de problemas sociais, na redução de desigualdades e injustiças e na busca pelo direito à cidade.
