First International Conference Urban Futures-Squaring Circles: Europe, China and the World in 2050

Cities play a prominent role at the local level but also, increasingly, at global level. Issues such as climate change and inequality call for the capacity to envision alternative development directions for their future. On the other hand, the growing complexity of urban systems requires new planning approaches, which traditional planning methods, usually short-term oriented and lacking an integrated approach, have been unable to deliver.

The EASP Summer School 2014 will take place from 17-30 August 2014 in Lisbon, Portugal.
The Summer School will be co-hosted by the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon (ICS-UL) and the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL).

Marcus Vinicius A. B. De Matos é Associate Tutor na School of Law do Birkbeck College (University of London), onde leciona Legal Methods and Legal Systems; mestre em Direito pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ); e Bolsista CAPES de Doutorado Pleno no Exterior. Dentre seus temas de análise estão: a relação entre tecnologia e direito; teoria do estado de exceção; as conexões entre direito, arte, imagem e cultura.
