BIOGRAFIA

Fabio Bertoni is a sociologist and a junior researcher at ICS-UL. He holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences from the University of Padua and, before his current position, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Cagliari. His primary research interest revolves around the relationship between bodies and urban spaces, dynamics of body governmentality, and practices of resistance. His research themes have previously encompassed youth studies, leisure practices, urban subcultures, and youth conflicts.

RESUMO

The research takes into consideration the apparatuses of normalisation of the bodies in the city, starting from the everyday urban experiences of people with a visual impairment, realized in the combination of institutional, relational, legislative, daily, and sociotechnical processes.

In accordance with critical disability studies approaches, the city (understood both in its materiality and spatiality) is a disabling environment, and disability is produced at the intersection with other inequalities (among them gender, race, class, generation) and in the way in which they are territorialized. Urban life at once defines a normativity of vision within urban space and governs the bodies of ‘visual impaired’ people through various, sometimes contradictory, mechanisms of assistance, exclusion, marginalization, and differentiated integration within a life "envisioned" within the boundaries of disability.

Considering that the project is in its early stages, the seminar will attempt, after a framing of the topics, to delve into the research design, contexts, methods and practices of research.
