Organisor: David Cairns (ICS-UL) Closing date for abstracts: 27 April 2007 Date of Conference: Friday 21 September 2007 Venue: Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon (Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa) Conference Language: English Objectives: Across Europe, the question of migration is currently at the top of policy agendas, particularly in terms of concerns over unforeseen or unwanted population flows into and between EU member states. This preoccupation however tends to obscure observation of the migratory experiences of particular socio-demographic or age groups. One such neglected group is European Youth. Within academic discourses on migration and in the sociological study of youth, consideration of specific youth experiences of migration is also largely absent. This conference seeks to address this deficit and advance the state of the art of research on youth and migration. Contributions are welcome from Sociology and other cognate disciplines on all themes relating to Youth and Migration in Europe, particularly in the following areas: Youth-specific migratory orientations and experiences; Youth migration decision-making processes; Migratory movements amongst highly-skilled youth; Regional/National-specific Youth migration issues; Theoretical perspectives on Youth migrations. It is also my intention to edit and publish a book based on original unpublished contributions.
