International Conference - The Effects of District Magnitude

Andre Blais (University of Montreal), Bernard Grofman (University of California), Pedro Magalhães and Nina Wiesehomeier (ICS-University of Lisbon) invite to the International Conference on "The Effects of District Magnitude" to be held in Lisbon 29 & 30 of May 2012.

District magnitude - the number of seats awarded per district - is a major factor that determines how electoral systems shape party systems. However, most national legislatures are elected using districts that vary in magnitude and we will focus on the political consequences of district magnitude variation within electoral systems.

The conference is co-sponsored by Irvine Center for the Study of Democracy and the Jack W. Peltason chair, University of California, Irvine and The McGill Center for the Study of Democratic Citizenship, McGill University, Montreal.
