Exploring State-Society Dynamics: A Comprehensive Study of Interactive Governance in China
No dia 10 de setembro, Chun-Chih Chang (Xiamen University) será o orador convidado do Seminário do Grupo de Investigação Regimes, Instituições, Governança e Políticas. O tema para esta sessão será Exploring State-Society Dynamics: A Comprehensive Study of Interactive Governance in China.
The relationship between the state and society is a central concern in political sociology. Much of the existing research has focused on limited case studies, raising questions about how to capture a broader understanding of the dynamics of state-society interaction and to analyze their consequences. In this presentation, Chang introduces an innovative method for collecting data from various state-society interactive cases documented in the literature. He introduces a new framework of “interactive governance” and outlines three analytical approaches for examining the interactive process: typology, evolution, and duration. Furthermore, Chang examines four essential qualities of governance: responsiveness, transparency, input channels, and societal empowerment. Using a dataset of state-society interaction in China, he demonstrates which conditions of interaction lead to enhanced governance qualities. This talk aims to encourage participants to reevaluate the state-society relationship from comprehensive and comparative perspectives.
