Cícero Roberto Pereira
Cicero Roberto Pereira is a senior research at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa (ICS-ULisboa). He holds a BA in Psychology and a Master's degree in Social Psychology from the Universidade Federal da Paraíba with a thesis on social values and human rights (UFPB, 2000). He holds a PhD in Experimental Social Psychology from the University Institute of Lisbon with a thesis on the relationship between prejudice and discrimination in contexts that combat prejudice (ISCTE-IUL, 2007). He was a postdoctoral research fellow at ICS-ULisboa, where he developed the Justified Discrimination Model. In 2018, he received the Habilitation degree in Social Psychology from ICS-ULisboa. His training, academic career and research projects have been funded by public institutions through competitive calls for proposals, mainly by the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES), the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPQ) and the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
He was Professor of Social Psychology and Quantitative Research Methods at the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás, at the Faculty of Psychology of ULisboa and at the Federal University of Paraíba. He has supervised master's theses and dissertations on the social psychology of prejudice and discrimination. In his studies, he analyses how and under what conditions social actors legitimize their attitudes and actions that support prejudiced and discriminatory measures against minority groups in contemporary democratic societies. His research has been published in more than a hundred journals, including the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Journal of Experimental Social Psychology Political Psychology and European Journal of Social Psychology.
