R-SCool: Data Analysis with R
R-SCool: Data Analysis with R
The School in R-SCool: Data Analysis with R is an intensive course in quantitative data analysis aimed at both beginners, with no prior knowledge of statistics or R software (Week 1), and participants with basic knowledge in these two fields (Week 2). In the first week, participants will be introduced to R software and the fundamentals of quantitative data analysis, focusing on model comparison, graphical visualization, estimation of bivariate models, and construction and interpretation of multiple linear regression and logistic regression models. In the second week, the course focuses on using the R ecosystem to manage data and report results. Tools for producing reports and presentations with Quarto, project management with GitHub, dissemination of materials on OSF, creation of interactive dashboards with Shiny, bibliometric analysis with Bibliometrix and website development with Blogdown will be covered.
Target Audience
The school is aimed at researchers, higher education students and technical professionals who wish to acquire basic knowledge of quantitative data analysis. No prior experience in quantitative analysis or specific programming knowledge is required; The course is designed to meet the needs of participants who are just starting out in this field.

Date and time: 7 July 2025 - 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Teacher: Marcelo Camerlo
ECTS Credits: 1
Module 2: From Zero to Logistic Regression
Description: The module is divided into two parts: (a) Introduction to quantitative data analysis, focusing on model comparison, research problem solving, graphical visualization and estimation of bivariate models; (b) Construction and interpretation of multiple linear and logistic regression models for predictive and explanatory analyses.
Requirements: Basic knowledge of R.
Dates and time: 8 to 11 July 2025 - 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
Teacher: Alda Botelho de Azevedo
ECTS Credits: 1
Module 3: Introduction to Data Analysis through the Model Comparison Approach
Description: This module presents the Model Comparison Approach as a strategy for statistical analysis. Participants will learn to formulate, estimate and interpret different statistical models, evaluating hypotheses by comparing alternative specifications.
Requirements: Basic knowledge of R.
Dates and times: 8 to 11 July 2025 - 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Teacher: Cícero Pereira
ECTS Credits: 1
Module 4: R in Action: Designing, Visualizing, and Communicating with R
Description: This module introduces tools from the R ecosystem to transform data into accessible, reproducible, and creative knowledge. In five sessions, we will learn how to: (1) Produce reports and presentations with Quarto, and create graphs with ggplot2; (2) Share and disseminate materials on OSF, as well as manage projects with GitHub; (3) Produce interactive applications and dashboards with Shiny; (4) Perform bibliometric analyses with Bibliometrix; (5) Create websites with Blogdown.
Requirements: Basic knowledge of R.
Dates and times: 14 to 18 July 2025 - 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
Teacher: João Oliveira Santos, Mariana Carmo Duarte, Pablo Cabás
ECTS Credits: 2
Assessment Methodology
Assessment will be based on active participation in classes and completion of a set of tasks distributed throughout the course. The tasks will be designed to test the understanding and application of the concepts covered in each module, allowing participants to demonstrate their ability to use the quantitative analysis techniques learned with the help of the R package and language.
