ICS-ULisboa Conference 2025: Spaces of Imagination
The ICS-ULisboa Conference 2025 will take place on July 7, starting at 9:30 AM, in the Sedas Nunes Auditorium at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon. This year, the conference is organized as part of the ERA Chair (European Research Agency) for the Study of Imagination and Society. The theme will be Spaces of Imagination. The event will be live on youtube.

“Only connect”: The works of imagination in a world in ruins
The Inaugural Lecture of the Imagination and Society Chair will take place at ICS-ULisboa n June 16th. Ramon Sarró, Visiting Principal Researcher at ICS-ULisboa and Professor Emeritus in Social Anthropology at the University of Oxford will present the lecture "Only Connect": The Works of Imagination in a World in Ruins. The event starts at 3pm, at the Auditório Sedas Nunes, ICS-ULisboa.

The Political Ecology Network is organizing the IV Political Ecology Meeting on the theme Territories and Resistances, from May 23 to 25 in Coimbra, and from May 30 to June 1 in Lisbon.
Democratic Innovations in Portugal - presentation of preliminary results
On June 24, the team of the research project Democratic Innovations in Portugal, led by ICS-ULisboa researcher Roberto Falanga, will present the preliminary results of the project at Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. The session will start at 2:30 pm, in Room 3, at the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. The presentation will be followed by a debate with experts and a Q&A session. Registration is required.
About the project:
(In)visible animals: exploring narratives and counter-narratives of wildfires
The research project ABIDE is organizing a symposium on the 21st and 22nd of may, in Auditório Sedas Nunes at ICS-ULisboa and online. The full program for the event is now available.
This symposium addresses questions around the narrativization of animals in media and policy documents, analysing how animals are represented – or made invisible – in discursive practices related to wildfires.
Ideias & Instituições: Diálogos com José Luís Cardoso
On May 26, ICS-ULisboa will host a special session to mark the recent retirement of José Luís Cardoso, senior researcher and former director of the institute.
Tecnofanias: Colóquio Internacional e Interuniversitário de Filosofia da Tecnologia
The international and inter-university colloquium Tecnofanias: International and Interuniversity Colloquium on the Philosophy of Technology will take place on May 23, 2025, at the Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal, in Lisbon. This event brings together researchers from various national and international institutions to critically reflect, through philosophy and the social sciences, on the complex relationships between technology, culture, and society.
Building the Nation: Architecture and Politics
The Building the Nation: Architecture and Politics symposium will take place at ICS-ULisboa on January 10 and 11, marking the conclusion of the FCT project Building Salazar’s People: Architecture in the Making of Portugueseness (ZARQ).

O lançamento do livro Saúde e Estilos de Vida no Ensino Superior em Portugal será no dia 6 de março, no Salão Nobre da Reitoria da Universidade de Lisboa, a partir das 10h. Este livro resulta do projeto de investigação Saúde e Estilos de Vida no Ensino Superior em Portugal (ES+Saúde), coordenado pelo Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa e posto em prática por uma equipa multidisciplinar de várias instituições académicas e organismos públicos.
