On May 26, ICS-ULisboa will host a special session to mark the recent retirement of José Luís Cardoso, senior researcher and former director of the institute.

With a background in economics and sociology, it was in the field of history that José Luís Cardoso found his true vocation, pursuing an interdisciplinary approach in his numerous writings dedicated to the study of the history of economic and political ideas and institutions from the 18th to the 20th century. He began his career at ISEG-ULisboa, later continuing it at ICS-ULisboa, combining research and teaching with university management roles. In the past three years, he has worked to renew the mission of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences.

This event brings together several participants who have maintained regular collaboration with José Luís Cardoso and will present some of his contributions in the fields of the history of economic thought and the management and promotion of academic activities in research, teaching, and community service.

The session will conclude with a lecture by José Luís Cardoso on one of his most recent research texts — a dialogue between Luís de Camões and Adam Smith.
