Building the Nation: Architecture and Politics

The Building the Nation: Architecture and Politics symposium will take place at ICS-ULisboa on January 10 and 11, marking the conclusion of the FCT project Building Salazar’s People: Architecture in the Making of Portugueseness (ZARQ).

ZARQ focused on politics and society during the Portuguese dictatorship (1932–1974), using buildings as historical evidence. Bringing together the fields of cultural and political history, anthropology, and architecture, the project explored the role of representations and the mutual interaction between representation and social reality.
