A apresentação enquadra-se no desenvolvimento da tese de doutoramento «Between Involuntary Childlessness and Childfree: representações e produção de significado de millennials sem filhos em Portugal» que tem procurado averiguar como é que os milénios que não têm filhos experienciam, percecionam e gerem a sua condição childlessness/childfree e a incerteza quanto a uma transição para a parentalidade/convicção de permanecerem sem filhos.

Na próxima quarta-feira, dia 10 de março, o grupo de leitura Animal Wonder está de volta.

Nesta sessão será discutido o capítulo ““Sympoiesis: Symbiogenesis and the Lively Arts of Staying with the Trouble”” da obra “Staying with the Trouble: Making Kin in the Chthulucene” de Donna J. Haraway (2016). Sessão será dinamizada por Gastão da Cunha Frota, Universidade Federal de Uberlândia.

Scarcity is a dangerous idea and has long been a totalising discourse in resource politics and mainstream economics. A large body of work has critiqued the naturalisation of scarcity in discourses of environmental change, and has highlighted problems in how scarcity is conceptualised and the ways in which scarcities are socially and politically generated. Despite this, the ‘scarcity postulate’ – that human wants are unlimited and the means to achieve them, scarce and limited – underpins much modern economics.

This week in SPARC we will have the presentation of Mónica Brito Vieira.

Mónica will be talking to us about her recently published APSR article on "Representing Silence in Politics”(attached) and other related work she has been doing.

Richard Huzzey:

I explore the lives of ordinary people in the past and try to explain how poor economies get richer and improve human well-being. I’m particularly interested in how social institutions – the formal and informal constraints on economic activity – shaped economic development in Europe between the Middle Ages and the present day. In recent years my publications have analysed guilds, serfdom, communities, the family, gender, human capital investment, consumption, and state capacity.
