Os Dabneys do Faial

Os Dabneys do Faial

This American family - which has established itself in the Azores archipelago during the XIX century - has left an impressive collection of documents (mostly diaries and letters) concerning their stay in the Faial island, as consuls for the USA government, during three generations. I intend to cover this very exclusive, upper class, educated family, as regards their businesses, relations with the local elite and their philanthropic role in the island. They were extremely well connected in Boston - most of their cousins belonged to the «Boston Brahmin» - which makes it possible to look at their influence not only on Faial daily life but on American political events.
