Brazilian Studies

Brazilian Studies

The Master's in Brazilian Studies is a joint transversal programme of the Faculdade de Letras and the Instituto de Ciências Sociais of the Universidade de Lisboa and results from the recognition of points of contact and intersection in the research conducted on Brazil in different fields and units of the Universidade de Lisboa. It is an interdisciplinary and innovative second cycle of studies in the national context, aiming at a dynamic integration between the humanities and the social sciences, and designed for students who are interested in all aspects of Brazilian culture, with emphasis on four fundamental fields and their articulation: Anthropology, History, Linguistics, and Literature. It allows, at the same time, a transversal specialization within the scope of Brazilian Studies and a pre-specialization in each of the fields involved. Students with a 1st cycle training in humanities in the broadest sense or in social sciences may apply.

The Master's degree in Brazilian Studies is granted to students who have obtained 120 ECTS through:

  • the approval of the advanced studies course in Brazilian Studies (60 ECTS) and
  • the approval of the defence of an original scientific dissertation (60 ECTS).
