2 Welcome to ICS Marina Costa Lobo The Director The Instituto de Ciências Sociais is an Organic Unit of the Universidade de Lisboa, an R&D Unit of FCT and an Associated Laboratory evaluated as “Excellent” since obtaining status. Here, we carry out Innovative research on contemporary societies, addressing their legacies and facing their challenges. While we promote excellence in research, we also promote dialogue between science and society on topics related to Inclusion and Vulnerabilities, Citizenship, Sustainability, and Memories and Legacies, where our impact is tangible and lasting. We strongly invest in advanced scientific training, carrying out doctoral programmes and postgraduate specialisation and training courses. All teaching is closely linked to the theoretical and methodological approaches developed in ongoing research at ICS-ULisboa, as diverse as the societies we study. We are committed to creating a working and learning environment that is as inclusive as it is dynamic, where all voices are heard and valued. From cutting-edge research to advanced scientific training that shapes lifelong learning for young people and adults, we are committed to contributing positively to society. 3 Objectives Offered jointly by the Faculdade de Letras and the Instituto de Ciências Sociais of the Universidade de Lisboa, the Master’s in Brazilian Studies covers four fundamental fields and their intersections: Anthropology, History, Linguistics and Literature. The programme provides a dynamic integration between Humanities and Social Sciences, allowing, simultaneously, a transversal specialisation within the scope of Brazilian Studies and a pre-specialisation in each of the fields involved. The Master’s in Brazilian Studies has the normal duration of two years organised into four semesters and foresees: 1) In the first two semesters, attendance and approval of a specialisation programme, consisting of an organized set of mandatory and optional seminars; 2)In the final two semesters, the writing of a final work (a dissertation of a scientific nature), under the guidance of one or more professors, its discussion and approval in a public examination.
4 Tuition Fees 1st and 2nd years – 1200€ • Certificate of Bachelor's or transcript of records if you have not yet concluded the Bachelor's; • Letter of interest (with indication of the field of research and objectives); • Curriculum Vitae (including published works, diplomas; and certificates). This programme is lectured inPortuguese. Target Audience The Master’s in Brazilian Studies is an interdisciplinary and innovative second cycle of studies in the national context, designed for students who are interested in all aspects of Brazilian history and culture, with emphasis on four fundamental fields: Anthropology, History, Linguistics and Literature.
