This is a research project in the field of contemporary sociological theories developed in collaboration with Cambridge University. The main research work consists of an analysis of and commentary on the leading theories in the field of contemporary sociology, including structuralism, functionalism and neo-functionalism, symbolic interactionism, critical theory and the theory of rational choice. The main product of this project will be the publication of a monograph called "Social Theory in the Twentieth Century" by Polity Press in the first quarter of 2009.

Objectivos: 
The main aim of the project is the publication by an international academic publisher of a book co-written with Patrick Baert (Cambridge University). The book is due to go on sale in the first quarter of 2009. An additional aim is to hold an international conference on the same theme - contemporary sociological theories - at the ICS. In addition to the co-author, foreign speakers will include Donald N. Levine (Chicago University), Goran Therborn (Cambridge University) and José Maurício Domingues (IUPERJ). The conference is due to take place in the second half of 2008.
