The main objective of the research is to contribute to the debates in the field of kinship studies in anthropology, as well as to studies on tourism and development. Both bodies of literature are particularly relevant for framing an investigation of contemporary Cape Verdean society. The research will be carried out in Chã das Caldeiras, a population center with about 1,000 inhabitants located on the island of Fogo at about 1,600 meters altitude, on a plateau formed in an old volcanic crater. There will be ethnographic field work for twelve months, oriented to an anthropology of daily life and also favoring the method of family histories.
