Pedro Alcântara da Silva
Pedro Alcântara da Silva is an Assistant Researcher at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa. He holds a degree in Sociology (1999), with a Postgraduate degree in Communication, Culture and Information Technologies (2001) and a PhD in Sociology (2010) from ISCTE – Lisbon University Institute.
His current research interests focus on the fields of Sociology of Health and Medicine, Sociology of Aging and Sociology of Communication and Mass Media. He has developed studies on access, evaluation and attitudes towards the Health System in Portugal and on behaviors and attitudes towards therapeutic adherence; he has also studied the representations of health and the Health System in the Portuguese media, as well as access to and use of information sources for health literacy. The aging of the population is another area of research he has dedicated himself to in recent years, particularly on aspects related to health, well-being and quality of life.
