Lavinia Pereira
I am a Junior Researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon (ICS-ULisboa); member of the Research Group SHIFT - Environment, Territory and Society, and co-convener of the UTH - Urban Transitions Hub, both based at ICS-ULisboa. Within this institutional frame I've been conducting research on the changing humans-nature relationship underlying the challenges of the Anthropocene, addressing the limitations of global environmental change and urban agendas in coping with those challenges. I've done that specifically by researching the potential of overlooked epistemologies and underexplored imaginaries, within and beyond formal institutions of knowledge production.
I’ve been increasingly interested in researching the conflictive dynamics and frictions between global and local imaginaries of urbanization through an imaginary lens and a post-colonial approach. My current research project focuses on the peripheral and semi-peripheral urban contexts of Luanda and Lisbon, the socio-technical and socio-ecological imaginaries conveyed by public agents, social movements and popular culture.
Areas of intervention: Urbanization processes; Urban imaginaries; Critical urban theory; Biodiversity conservation; Post-colonial urban theory
Projects:
- UrbanoScenes. Post-colonial imaginaries of urbanization: a future-oriented investigation from Portugal and Angola (ongoing)
- Naturescapes: Nature-Based Solutions for climate resilient, nature positive and socially just communities in diverse landscapes (ongoing)
