José São José
My background is in Sociology, having completed my PhD (2009) and MA (1998) at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon, and my BA (1993) at the New University of Lisbon. I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Algarve, Faculty of Economics. I teach Sociology of the Family Life, Sociology of Ageing and Qualitative Research Methods on undergraduate and postgraduate courses. My research has focused on social care for older people, exploring themes such as reconciliation between work and care, experiences of providing family care and preserving dignity in later life. Currently, my research interests include ageism in health and long-term care, active and successful ageing, and sexuality in later life. I am engaged in two international research networks, one devoted to ageism (COST Action IS1402) and another one devoted to ageing from a multidisciplinary perspective (RIIIES).
