Clare Anderson
Clare Anderson is Professor of History and Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of Leicester. Her research focuses on the histories and legacies of the British and other empires, particularly in regard to criminal justice, punishment, and penal colonies. Her most recent book is Convicts: A Global History (Cambridge University Press, 2022), and she is currently developing work on colonial and post-colonial prisons in British Guiana/ Guyana, and on descent and descendants of “colonial” convicts across carceral locations in the British and French Empires.
