Annarita Gori
Annarita Gori obtained her PhD in 2012 (University of Siena). Additionally, she was awarded the title of Doctor Europeus following a period as a Marie Curie visiting fellow at Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa in 2009.
Between 2013 and 2019, she was post-doc researcher at ICS-UL and in 2019 she was hired as a research fellow in the same institute where she is currently serves as the vice-coordinator of the Memory, History and Society Investigation Group and as a member of the Scientific Council.
In 2015 and 2016, she held visiting scholar positions at New York University and Centre d’Histoire of Sciences Po. In 2019 she won the competitive selection for the FLAD/Brown Visiting Professorship, which allow her to spend a semester as visiting professor at Brown University in 2020.
Her research focuses on cultural diplomacy, visual propaganda, and intellectual networks. She has the opportunity to explore these topics by participating as a team member in international projects funded by the Portuguese FCT, the Spanish Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, and the European Commission.
Her academic outputs encompass several co-edited books, special issues and articles published in four languages. Dr. Gori is also the author of a monograph that won the ERICS award in 2015. Her latest publications appeared in «Cultural and Social History» (2019) and «Intellectual History Review» (2020). Two new books on political exhibitions are due to be published in 2024 by Routledge and Tinta da China. This latter topic was the basis for the exhibition 'The Spectacle of Power' that she curated at the Padrão dos Descobrimentos in 2023.
Dr. Gori is currently working on soft power strategies and cultural diplomacy between the Portuguese Estado Novo and the United States during the period 1939-1974. This new research line is being conducted within the framework of two FCT-funded projects. In fact, in 2021, she won the Individual Call for Scientific Employment Stimulus, and the following year, she also secured the position of Principal Investigator for the I&D Project “ExPORT: Exporting Portugal - Estado Novo cultural diplomacy and rebranding strategies in the United States (1933-1974).
Finally, Dr. Gori has a record of teaching, training and research mentoring, holding posts at the Comparative Politics Doctoral School at ICS and serving as a professor in the School of Arts and Humanities (University of Lisbon) where she teaches and supervises postgraduates.
