This research project aims to study the process of national identity formation and preservation within collective groups of immigrants from former Portuguese colonies and currently Lusophone countries, living in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.
Objectivos:
The main objective of this research project is to study the processes of national identity formation within the collective groups of immigrants from PALOP countries. To accomplish this objective a detailed approach shall be undertaken and classified into several interconnected topics (which also constitute other objectives): <p>- the relationship between national identities and other identities (ethnic / regional); </p><p>- a comparison between former national identities and the ones that emerged from the colonisation process; </p><p>- the relationship between national identity, personal identity and nationalism; </p><p>- the role of transnational networks, of state agencies, of "banal" nationalism in the process of identity formation/preservati</p><p>- the analyses of national identity and citizenship articulation;</p><p>- the assessment of the relevance of national identity within globalization; </p><p>- the role of Portugal as a "Significant Other" in the representation of the identity of people from PALOP countries;</p><p>- the meanings that people from PALOP countries attribute to Lusophony.</p>
