Expressions of Interest for the FCT Call 'Stimulus to Individual Scientific Employment - 7th edition'

The Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa (ICS-ULisboa), an FCT Associated Laboratory, within the scope of the 'Stimulus to Individual Scientific Employment - 7th edition' competition promoted by the Foundation for Science and Technology, is accepting expressions of interest, as a host institution, from doctoral graduates in the fields of Social and Cultural Anthropology, Political Science, Economics, Human Geography, History, Social Psychology and Sociology, taking into account the research objectives and activities of ICS-ULisboa's Thematic Lines and Research Groups.

Recipients:

National, foreign and stateless PhD holders with a background in one of ICS-ULisboa's scientific areas - Social and Cultural Anthropology, Political Science, Economics, Human Geography, History, Social Psychology and Sociology - who wish to develop their scientific activity with ICS-ULisboa as their Host Institution.

President: Prof. Dr. Marina Costa Lobo, Director of ICS-ULisboa and Research Professor; Members: Prof. Dr. Ângela Barreto Xavier, President of the Scientific Council of ICS-ULisboa and Research Professor; Prof. Dr. Pedro Magalhães, President of the School Council and Research Professor; Prof. Dr. Sofia Aboim, Research Professor; Prof. Dr. Susana Matos Viegas, Deputy Director and Research Professor; Prof. Dr. João Ferrão, retired Research Professor of ICS-ULisboa.

Period for submitting expressions of interest:

Expressions of interest, written in Portuguese or English, should be submitted by September 16, 2024, to the e-mail candidaturas@ics.ulisboa.pt

Mandatory documentation for submitting expressions of interest:

1 - General information: a) Updated curriculum vitae, preferably CIENCIA VITAE; b) Certificate of completion of the doctoral programme. In the case of a doctorate obtained abroad, the candidate must submit a copy of the recognition of the doctoral degree in Portugal only at the contractualization stage; c) Level/category to which they intend to apply: junior researcher (PhD holders for 5 years or less) or assistant researcher.

2 - Scientific and curricular career: summary of scientific and curricular career and main activities and achievements obtained in the last 5 years - or less in the case of junior researchers (maximum 5,000 characters).

3 - Career development plan framing this expression of interest and its impact on future career goals and scientific achievements (maximum 5,000 characters).

4 - Research Plan to be developed, with the definition and characterisation of the scientific objectives and questions, activities, expected results and their alignment with the themes and activities of the Thematic Lines and Research Groups of ICS- ULisboa, as well as the identification of the mission and scientific challenge to be framed within the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda (maximum 5,000 characters).

5 - Conditions of the Host Institution: Indicate how the Research Plan fits into the mission and scientific strategy of ICS-ULisboa, as the Host Institution, and what contributions you think you can receive and make (maximum 4,000 characters).

6 - Other documents: a) a copy of the two publications that the candidate considers most relevant (in pdf); b) a Letter of Motivation describing current research interests and how they fit in with the objectives and activities carried out at ICS-ULisboa; c) two letters of recommendation from social scientists affiliated with foreign institutions.

Criteria for selecting Expressions of Interest:

1 - The evaluation of the expressions of interest consists of the assessment of two criteria:

a) The candidate´s merit, with a weighting of 60% in the total evaluation, comprises the following items: curriculum vitae; scientific and curricular background; career development plan; selected publications; motivation letter and letters of recommendation;

b) The merit of the research plan, with a weighting of 40% in the total evaluation, includes the alignment of the objectives presented with the research objectives and activities of the Thematic Lines and Research Groups of ICS-ULisboa.

2 - Expressions of interest will be assessed on a scale of 1 to 10.

Announcement of the decision to support candidates with ICS-ULisboa as the Host Institution:

ICS-ULisboa's decision to support applicants to the Call will be communicated by e-mail by October 4, 2024.
