On 25th February, the Inaugural Lecture of DeMig 2nd Semester will take place at 10am and will be given by Prof. Dr. Antonie Schmiz (Department of Human Geography, Freie Universität Berlin), titled Towards a reflexive practice of knowledge production: Decentering and Decolonizing Migration Research.

This session aims to decenter categories that are often taken over in migration studies. The perspective of critical knowledge production allows us to address questions such as ‘Who is conceptualised a migrant?’ or ‘What is the role of the nation state for the analysis of migration?’. It suggests two entry points for rethinking and overcoming taken-for-granted entry points to our research practice: Reflexivity and anti-/decoloniality. With that, it aims to give a critical impulse towards de-migranticizing migration studies.

Hosts: Alexandra Figueiredo & Lea Molina Caminero
