BINGE DRINKING AS EPISODIC YOUTH CULTURAL PRACTICE: Some insights from a German research project

"Whereas the phenomenon of public binge drinking among young people all over Europe has nurtured the discourses on "youth at risk" as well as on "youth as risk", only few studies have tried to get insights into the collective and subjective meaning of such riskfull practices. A current qualitative research project in Southern Germany carries out a follow-up-study on heavily drinking youth and allows for first careful results, which point to binge-drinking as an episodic phenomenon rather than to the creation of a new generation of alcohol addicts."
