Guya Accornero is an invited professor in social movements studies at the Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL), and an advanced researcher fellow in political science at the Centro de Investigação e Estudos de Sociologia (CIES-IUL), carrying on a project funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT). She obtained her PhD from the Institute of Social Science of Lisbon University in 2010. Her main area of investigation are social movements, radicalism, democratic transitions, anti-austerity movements. She has published articles in the journals West European Politics, Democratization, Cultures & Conflits, Análise Social, Storia e Problemi Contemporanei, Estudos Ibero-Americanos, among others. Moreover, she published the monograph The Revolution before the Revolution. Student Protest and Political Process at the end of the Portuguese Dictatorship, and she edited (with Olivier Fillieule), the book Social Movements Studies in Europe. The State of the Art, both for the publisher Berghahn Books.
