On September 29, the public defense for the PhD in Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies by Ernesto Velazquez will take place in the Sala de Atos of the Rector’s Office of the University of Lisbon. The candidate will defend the thesis Self-Efficacy for Climate Action: Barriers and Opportunities for Small-Scale Farmers in Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.

On September 18, the public defense for the PhD in History: Continuity and Change in a Global World by Arlindo Souza will take place in the Sala de Atos of the Rector’s Office of the University of Lisbon. The candidate will defend the doctoral thesis Os "orientes" de Freyre e a Questão de Goa (1954-1961) sob o olhar lusotropical: um Lusotropicalismo Orientalista?

On September 23, the Museu de História Natural e da Ciência will host the opening of the exhibition Movements: Revolution, Circulation, Borders, organized by the ICS-ULisboa Migration Hub. The exhibition will be open to the public from September 23, 2025, to January 31, 2026.

On September 26, the ICS-ULisboa Migration Hub will organize the interactive game Circulating in the Museum and the World, as part of the European Researchers’ Night.

On September 30, the Fronteira Palace will host a gathering in honor of Nuno Gonçalo Monteiro, marking his retirement as Coordinating Researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon. A member of the Cultural Advisory Council of the Fundação das Casas de Fronteira e Alorna and a specialist in the study of elites at the twilight of the Ancien Régime, he is a leading figure in the social and political history of Portugal and the Portuguese Empire in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

No próximo dia 15 de Julho, terá lugar a prova pública de Doutoramento em Antropologia, da Mestre Mayne Souza Benedetto. A candidata irá defender a tese Normal is Just Another Word for White: Autistic Experiences Beyond the Binary Burden.  A partir das 14.30h, exclusivamente online.

No próximo dia 16 de Julho, terá lugar a prova pública de Doutoramento em Alterações Climáticas e Políticas de Desenvolvimento Sustentável, de Joana Sá Couto Lomba Batista. A candidata irá defender a tese Ecologias do Trabalho da Pesca: uma Etnografia com Pescadores de Setúbal e Sesimbra.  A partir das 10h, na Sala de Conferências Jorge Gaspar do IGOT-ULisboa e online.

The PhD candidate in Development Studies Daniel Tjarks will defend his thesis titled Who governs in and beyond the metropolis? A multilevel governance assessment of power in urban Angola on the 3rd of July, at the Rectorate of the University of Lisbon, starting at 2:30 pm. The event will be broadcast online.

On June 20, the publisher Imprensa de Ciências Sociais will be launching the book Colonizar a Metrópole. Estado, Ciência e Técnicas de Colonização Interna durante o Estado Novo, by Elisa Lopes da Silva. The book will be presented by Fernando Rosas and Cláudia Castelo. The event will be held at the Praça Laranja at the Feira do Livro de Lisboa, starting at 6 pm.

No dia 17 de junho a Imprensa de Ciências Sociais organiza o lançamento do livro 50 anos de Abril. Questões Ambientais, Sociais e Territoriais, da autoria de Mónica Truninger, João Morais Mourato, Roberto Falanga, Luísa Schmidt e Rosario Oliveira.A obra será apresentada por Viriato Soromenho Marques, Sofia Bento e Mário Vale. Na Praça Roxa da Feira do Livro de Lisboa a partir das 18h.
