Fernando Pessoa as a Thinker
Fernando Pessoa as a Thinker
The aim of this project is to publish and disseminate a collection of important theoretical texts, mainly in the area of philosophy and sociology, by Fernando Pessoa, using the philological criteria of critical publishing. Although the project may appear large, it is completely practicable, considering that it is based, to a large extent, on material that has already been collected and on a project shared with members of the Equipa Fernando Pessoa (Fernando Pessoa Team) (which is responsible for the critical edition). In addition to this editorial work, the project also involves the international dissemination of Pessoa's theoretical thinking. This part of the project is mainly a continuation of my studies of religious phenomena (mainly relating to neo-paganism) in the work of Fernando Pessoa. Taking in account that my publications and translations relating to theoretical issues in Pessoa have enjoyed great success in German-speaking countries (Dix, 2005 and 2006), my aim is to continue my research into Pessoa as a thinker. This part of the project reflects the growing interest in Pessoa's theoretical thinking (philosophic, political, sociological etc), which has become increasingly notable in Portugal and, above all, overseas (e.g. Kohler, 2005; Grieser, 2006 and Riccardi 2007). In short, the aim of this project is to present Pessoa as a thinker, moving beyond Pessoa as a poet and prose writer to examine an aspect of this Portuguese modernist that remains considerably underestimated.
