Manuel André Simões Homem Cristo António
With a degree in Anthropology and a master's degree in the study of migrations, with research concerning the Angolan students in higher education in Lisbon, I concluded my PhD in anthropology at ICS-UL, in 2015, in the specialty of Medical Anthropology. My work involved periods of research in the U.S. and in Brazil, in cooperation with the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) and with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Museu Nacional-UFRJ). My thesis – entitled "Active ageing and the use of Traditional Chinese Medicine: between individual responsibility and the social determinants of health" – looks for an integration of the data gathered in the 3 contexts of my research - Santa Cruz, California (USA), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and, mainly, Lisbon (Portugal) - with a critical reading of the theoretical literature of the Social Sciences, and also, Public Health, Geriatrics and Gerontology.
