This dissertation is a study of the portuguese psychiatric desinstitutionalizaton. It analyses the resistances, contradictions and utopian views that were at the core of the process of mental health and psychiatry services changing. Its purpose is to develop a contextual understanding of the clinical settings in which psychiatric disorders have been experienced in the last decades.
