José Luís Cardoso
José Luís Cardoso is research professor at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa where he served as Deputy Director (2010-2014) and Director (2014-2018), and is President of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences (2022-2024)
Until 2008 he was full professor of economics and history of economic thought at ISEG, University of Lisbon. He collaborates with several foreign universities as visiting professor. He is author and editor of several books on the Portuguese history of economic thought from a comparative perspective, with special emphasis on the study of the processes of diffusion and assimilation of economic ideas. His historical essays combine multidisciplinary approaches with contributions from economics, sociology and political science. His research interests also include economic history and methodology of economics.
He has published articles in the main peer reviewed and WoS or Scopus journals in his field of research, namely The European Journal of the History of Economic Thought, History of Political Economy, Journal of the History of Economic Thought, History of Economic Ideas, Journal of Socio-Economics, History of European Ideas, Studies in the History and Philosophy of Science, Revista de História Económica - Journal of Iberian and Latin American Economic History and Financial History Review. He has also articles published in the main history and social sciences journals published in Portugal and Brazil, namely Análise Social, Ler História, e-journal of Portuguese History, Tempo and Revista Brasileira de História.
He is the general editor of the series Classics of Portuguese Economic Thought (20 titles in 30 volumes) and founding editor of the European Journal of the History of Economic Thought and of the e-journal of Portuguese history. He has been President of the European Society for the History of Economic Thought (ESHET) in 2014-2016.
