Filipa Subtil (b. 1971) obtained her Doctorate on Social Sciences from ICS-ULisbon. She is currently tenured professor at the School of Communication and Media Studies, Lisbon Polytecnic Institute; She has held visiting positions at the Department of Communication Studies, University of Iowa (2010) and at Mulhenberg Collegue (2008) in the US. Since 2014, she is editor-in-chief of Comunicação Pública Journal. Her research interests have focused on sociology of communication, the social theory of the media in the US and Canada as well as the problematic frameworks of the media on gender issues, all fields on which she has published articles in international and national journals and book chapters. In 2006, she published Compreender os Media. As Extensões de McLuhan [Understanding the Media. The McLuhan Extensions] (Minerva, Coimbra).
