Ana Rainho
With a background spanning a BSc in Biology and a PhD in Ecology from the University of Lisbon, as well as an MSc in Geography (Geographic Information Sciences) from the University of Edinburgh, I have built a career dedicated to understanding and conserving biodiversity across Mediterranean, tropical, and island ecosystems. My work bridges ecology and conservation, with a particular focus on how human-altered landscapes can be managed more sustainably.
I am especially interested in ecosystem services, ecological intensification, and strategies that harmonise food production with biodiversity conservation. More recently, my research has expanded to examine faunal recovery in landscapes that have undergone large-scale anthropogenic disturbance, seeking pathways for resilience and long-term ecological restoration.
