International Social Survey Programme - 2005 Attitudes toward work (2ª edição)

The International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) is a continuing annual programme of cross-national collaboration on surveys covering topics important for social science research. It is also the oldest and largest network of comparative and longitudinal studies, involving the application of identical questionnaires in more than 40 countries. Portugal is a member of the network since 1997.The main objectives of the PORTUGUESE SOCIAL ATTITUDES program, which includes the ISSP surveys, are the following:

- to develop thematic questionnaires on social topics together with an extensive socio-demographic module;

- to produce comparative data with other countries;

- to create an instrument for longitudinal analyses by survey replication every number of years;

- to make survey data available to the social sciences community, the media and the public at large.

The ISSP annual surveys are applied to a probabilistic sample of the adult (18 years old+) resident population of Continental Portugal.

Objectivos:
The ISSP 2005 questionnaire was devoted to the attitudes toward work and to the patterns of behaviour related to work. A national module was developed in order to supplement the information the international one. The main objective is to analyse the Portuguese data in comparative perspective as well as longitudinal perspective (with the 1997 data). A book putting is currently in preparation to be published in the ICS Press series «Portuguese Social Attitudes».
State of the art:
