Interlibrary Loans

Interlibrary Loans

1 - The Interlibrary Loan service's main objective is to enable all members of the scientific, academic and professional community to access documents that are not found in the documentary collections of their respective Libraries.

2 - For this purpose, the ICS Library requests these documents from other national and foreign documentation services. The EIB service is available to other external national and international entities (libraries, documentation and information centers) that need to access documents in the ICS Library. Document loans are only made to institutions. If you are an individual user, your request must be made through your institution's library.

3 - The ICS Library always acts as the sole responsible for the requested works.

4 - The request must be made by email.

5 - In the context of requests made by other Libraries, the ICS adopts the aforementioned criteria, in accordance with the rules established for EIB loans.

6 - EIB requests are responded to within a maximum period of 24 hours, with the Library reserving the right to send the loan according to its possibilities.

7 - The cooperating Libraries of SIBUL, ISCTE and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation are exempt from paying shipping or other costs.

8 - Shipping costs to the remaining libraries are fixed at the end of each calendar year.

Loan Duration and Conditions

The conditions of the loan and respective duration, according to the users' statutes, are the following:

The loan is subject to a maximum of one renewal (in case there isn't a new requester) that may be done in-person, by email (biblioteca@ics.ulisboa.pt), or by phone call.

Prices

The established price table for loans of monographs and photocopies to external users obeys the norms of the ICS Library Regulation:

The IFLA Voucher System

The IFLA Voucher System facilitates the payment of international interlibrary loan requests through the use of vouchers instead of real money.

How does it work?
- the vouchers have a limited validity
- they may be reused several times
- vouchers can be acquired for two amounts:
1 VOUCHER    = € 8
1/2 VOUCHER = € 4

IFLA recommends as standard payments:
1 VOUCHER, per loan;
1 VOUCHER, per supply of up to 15 pages of photocopies.
