ICS-ULisboa Advanced Studies Fellowship Regulations

The ICS-ULisboa Advanced Studies Fellowship was created with the aim of promoting exchange between the Institute of Social Sciences and other academic institutions as well as fostering high-quality training/specialization courses at ICS-ULisboa.

1. Applications:
1.1. Eligibility criteria

a) PhD holder for more than 5 years  
b) Affiliation with a university institution
c) Sponsorship from one or more researchers at ICS-ULisboa

1.2. Application process

Applications must be submitted to the Director’s office (assessoria.direccao@ics.ulisboa.pt), with the following documents:

a) Curriculum vitae
b) Letter of support from one or more ICS-ULisboa researchers
c) Work Plan describing the activities that the applicant proposes to carry out at ICS-ULisboa.

2. Evaluation criteria
2.1 Curriculum Vitae’s seniority and excellence
2.2 Work Plan, with a maximum length of 2,500 words, addressing the following points:

a) Work Plan alignment with one or more Thematic Lines (LTs) of ICS-ULisboa;
b) Training Course or a Teaching/Seminar Plan: a minimum of 10 (ten) hours of in-person lectures and/or seminars, including at least one public session; or a training/specialization course co-organized with the proponent researcher and with the support of the ICS-ULisboa Academic Management Office;
c) Contribution to the establishment of Research Networks involving ICS-ULisboa.

3. Timeline: The fellowship activities must take place between January and July or between October and December, with a minimum stay of 3 (three) weeks at ICS-ULisboa.

4. Fellowship Amount: 5.000,00€, (gross amount), including all expenses related to travel and accommodation. The amount is subject to taxation where applicable.

5. Research outputs resulting from the fellowship stay at ICS-ULisboa must explicitly acknowledge the fellowship.

6. Application period: From May 15 to June 30 of each year.

7. Application Evaluation and Selection: Applications will be evaluated based on the CV (50%) and the quality of the Work Plan, including its alignment with ICS-ULisboa’s Thematic Lines (20%), the proposed training or teaching/seminar plan (20%), and its contribution to the development of research networks (10%). Evaluation will take place in July by the ICS-ULisboa Advanced Studies Fellowship Committee, chaired by Cristiana Bastos (2024–2026) and including Ângela Barreto Xavier, Edalina Sanches, and Rui Costa Lopes. ICS-ULisboa will inform applicants and their sponsors of the outcome by the end of July.
