Sexuality and youth affections

Sexuality and youth affections

The project seeks a sociological understanding of the affection (and disaffection) production mechanisms among young people, and the webs of youth behaviours and social networks that - prior and subsequent to the affection production process - are associated with them. In sum, we shall attempt to assess to what degree affective and expressive investments (or disinvestments) translate into specific processes of socialization (or dissocialization).

In sum, we shall attempt to assess to what degree affective and expressive investments (or disinvestments) translate into specific processes of socialization (or dissocialization).

Objectivos:
The way in which young people experience affections determines the meaning they attribute to life. The behavioural characteristics of young people - withdrawal, aggressiveness, frustration, anxiety, satisfaction, expansivity - in various contexts of their daily lives (school, satisfaction, sociabilities, etc.) are anchored to their way of living affections. It is quite possible (research hypothesis to be explored) that the feelings in relation to daily life or investments in relation to the future (professional, marital, etc.) are directly linked to the way in which affections are lived. As a corollary (derived hypothesis to be researched), it is also possible that some "rebellious" or "risk" behaviours (including the consumption of drugs) express an absence of affections or translate complicated relationships in the affective and sexual life of young people. Problems that affect many young people - such as sexual misinformation, unwanted pregnancies, the contraction of sexually transmissible diseases, existential anxieties, dissocialization and misidentification processes, feelings of isolation, lack of self-confidence, etc. - may be more adequately dealt with if a more in-depth and well-founded knowledge is developed with regards to the nature and determinants of those problems.
