2 Welcome to the ICS The Institute of Social Sciences is an Organic Unit of the University of Lisbon, an FCT R&D Unit, and an Associated Laboratory rated as “Excellent” since it obtained its status. We conduct innovative research on contemporary societies, addressing their legacies and confronting their challenges. While promoting excellence in research, we foster dialogue between science and society on topics related to Inclusion and Vulnerabilities, Citizenship, Sustainability, and Memories and Legacies, where our impact is tangible and lasting. We invest heavily in advanced scientific training, conducting doctoral programmes and postgraduate courses for specialisation and capacity-building. All teaching is closely linked to the theoretical and methodological approaches developed in ongoing research at the ICS-ULisboa, as diverse as the societies we study. We are committed to creating a work and learning environment that is as inclusive as possible, where all voices are heard and valued. From cutting-edge research to advanced scientific training that shapes lifelong learning for young people and adults, we are committed to making a positive contribution to society.
