MASTER'S PROGRAMME Scientific Culture and Science Outreach
2 Welcome to ICS Marina Costa Lobo The Director The Instituto de Ciências Sociais is an Organic Unit of the Universidade de Lisboa, an R&D Unit of FCT and an Associated Laboratory evaluated as “Excellent” since obtaining status. Here, we carry out Innovative research on contemporary societies, addressing their legacies and facing their challenges. While we promote excellence in research, we also promote dialogue between science and society on topics related to Inclusion and Vulnerabilities, Citizenship, Sustainability, and Memories and Legacies, where our impact is tangible and lasting. We strongly invest in advanced scientific training, carrying out doctoral programmes and postgraduate specialisation and training courses. All teaching is closely linked to the theoretical and methodological approaches developed in ongoing research at ICS-ULisboa, as diverse as the societies we study. We are committed to creating a working and learning environment that is as inclusive as it is dynamic, where all voices are heard and valued. From cutting-edge research to advanced scientific training that shapes lifelong learning for young people and adults, we are committed to contributing positively to society. After all, knowledge only makes a difference when it is rigorous, shared, discussed, and applied. While we look back with pride and gratitude on ICSULisboa's 60-year history, we also have our eyes firmly set on the future. Join us on this exciting journey as we continue to shape the future of social sciences and contribute to a more informed, reflective, and connected society.

7 “I have been a Science Communicator for 10 years, and being admitted to this Master’s degree offered me a set of tools that completely changes my perspective on the field as well as my way of working. In an interdisciplinary field, one of the great advantages of this Master’s degree is the possibility of getting to know scientific work, as well as communication strategies, from within the several faculties of the Universidade de Lisboa. Not to forget the access to a surprising number of experts in the field, with experiences known and recognised nationally and internationally.” Pedro Garcia Testimonials “Throughout my master's degree, I was surprised by several curricular units that heightened my interest in Natural Sciences. My dissertation was published as the first work on scientific culture in Angola. I am currently responsible for the University Extension Office at the Instituto Superior Politécnico de Humanidades e Tecnologias do Huambo. This was only possible because the master's degree gave me objective skills to create extension initiatives in the Angolan context. I recommend the course to anyone who wants to do something related to science communication.” Anil Vila
