3 Objectives The PhD in Comparative Politics was created in 2010 and its main objective is to train political scientists of a high academic level, converging the research developed at the ICS with postgraduate education. The ICS is the main Portuguese research institution in this area, so its resources and the expertise of its researchers add value to the PhD programme. The programme provides: • Training in advanced methodological techniques; • Exposure to the most up-to-date international research; • Interaction with cutting edge national and international scholars; • Integration into an international, multi-disciplinary academic network; • Unique access to ample bibliographic resources and research funds to be used in Portugal and abroad; Students will receive training to elaborate a doctoral thesis and develop an academic career. They will be exposed, through the seminars and the participation in international networks, to state of the art research in political science and related fields in social sciences. Throughout the programme, students will be accompanied on their research and will present their works periodically, giving space to the training of individual skills in the preparation of written work and presentation of results.
