ADVANCED STUDIES in SOCIAL SCIENCES Advanced studies fall within the scope of the ICS' role and position as an organic unit of the University of Lisbon and as anAssociate Laboratory of the FCT. They provide consolidated advanced training in the fields of Anthropology, Political Science,Human Geography,History, Social Psychology and Sociology. ICS currently organizes or participates in eleven PhD Programmes. Four of these are joint programmes within the University of Lisbon, and six are joint programmes with other universities. At ICS, students develop their dissertations in a vibrant international and interdisciplinary research environment. Our PhD Programmes provide advanced theoretical and methodological training through courses and individual tutorials. They encourage innovation, creativity, and the cross-fertilization of disciplines within and beyond the scope of the social sciences. ICS also collaborates in a growing number of Master's Programmes at the University of Lisbon. Advanced training is further promoted through hands-on learning in research project teams and through Summer and Winter Schools on methods and emergent research topics.
