Dynamic microsimulation model for Portugal - Balancing the fiscal and social sustainability of the Portuguese pension system

Building on a partnership between ICS, the Office of Strategy and Planning / Ministry of Solidarity, Employment and Social Security (GEP-MSESS) and the University of Southampton, this project aims to build a dynamic microsimulation model for Portugal (DYNAPOR). Using the DYANPOR data, we will conduct a study on how can we best balance the financial and social sustainability of the Portuguese pension system? The scenarios to be tested will reflect different options for the reform of the Portuguese pension system, such as increasing contributions into the system, increasing the reference retirement age, introducing ceilings to pensionable earnings, introduction of a mandatory public defined-contribution pension scheme, curb the growth of expenditure on survivor's pensions, etc.
