Diagnostic and Strategy Study 2014-20: "Urban Policy"

This study was commissioned by the Algarve Regional Coordination Commission (CCDR Algarve). It aims to define the basis of na Urban Policy for the region and, from these bases, ensure that the Regional Operational Program Algarve 2014-2020, in preparation, includes the appropriate programmatic and financial instruments for the implementation of that policy.

According to the terms of reference prepared by CCDR Algarve, the Study includes the following tasks:

  1. To assess the strategies, interventions, results and instruments defined for the region in previous EU programming periods in the field of cities;
  2. To characterize the recent dynamics of: urban expansion; relations between cities and surrounding areas; and regional urban system;
  3. To propose an urban model to be adopted in the Algarve region, aiming at sustainable and integrated urban development;
  4. To identify the intervention priorities necessary for the physical rehabilitation of degraded urban-tourist spaces;
  5. To propose a vision of urban structuring that will guide a balanced development of the regional urban system;
  6. To formulate an integrated program of public policies for integrated, sustainable urban development.
