Virginia works as Post-Doctoral researcher in the ERC project MAPLE, coordinated by Dr. Marina Costa Lobo, at the Institute for Social Sciences. She holds a PhD from the University of Manchester, supervised by prof. Laura Morales and prof. Ed Fieldhouse, where she explores the causes of changes in public opinion towards immigration. The quantitative methods used to analyse several surveys and contextual data, conclude that the economic crisis has a significant impact on the way that Spanish population perceived immigration and its economic consequences at both the aggregate and individual level.
She has worked as Research Assistant in projects funded by the European Commission looking at the politicization of immigration in the European Union (SOM project) and the political participation of migrants in several European cities (project LOCALMULTIDEM).
She has also worked on survey methodology at the Centre for Sociological Research in Spain, where she held a Social Science Research Grant in the Research Department and at the European Social Survey HQ in City University, London where she was a Researcher.
Her interests include Public Opinion in Europe, Migration and Survey Methodology.
