Sofia Pappámikail Marinho
Sofia Marinho, has a PhD in Social Sciences, Sociology Specialty, received in 2012 from the University of Lisbon. She graduated in Sociology at ISCTE (2000).
Currently, she is an assistant researcher at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais of the University of Lisbon, where she has doing research since 2004, both in national and international research projects. She is a member of the OFAP - Family and Family Policies Observatory and the LIFE research group of the Institute. In parallel, she belongs to the team of professors of Anthropology and Sociology of ESEL, the nursing school of the University of Lisbon, where she started teaching as an Assistant Professor in 2011. Outside the academy, she is a member of the board of the International Council for Shared Parenting.
In 2018, she completed her postdoctoral research project “Reconfigurations of co-parenting after partnership dissolution: the dynamics of negotiation and public policies of shared parental responsibility in Portugal”, which was funded by the FCT- Foundation for Science and Technology and developed at ICS-ULisboa.
She is now responsible for co-coordinating the Project PARENT- Childbearing and Parenting in the context of Low Fertility, Family Change and the Economic Crisis, coordinated by Vanessa Cunha and funded by the FCT- Foundation for Science and Technology (ref. PTDC/SOC-SOC/29367/2017). Additionally, she is starting the project “Meanings, practice and policies of parenthood after partnership dissolution: experiences of mothers, fathers and children”.
At the core of her research interests are the social and cultural processes of change and diversification in parental and family practices and relationships, gender relations and family policies, on the one hand, and the experiences of mothering, fathering and parenting coordination in the couple and after its dissolution, on the other hand. She has published on these subjects in national and international scientific journals, as well as in books.
