After a degree in ethnology from the University of Paris 8, a master's degree in social sciences from the University of Paris 5 and in social anthropology from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Helena Prado has obtained a PhD in social anthropology and ethnology from EHESS in 2016.
She was Teaching Assistant in sociology and anthropology at Université Paris 1-Panthéon Sorbonne between 2015 and 2017 and taught several courses in anthropology of the body, globalization, fieldwork methodology and introduction to social sciences in several universities and paramedical training institutions in France.
For 10 years she has investigated the dynamics of cultural identification of the descendants of Japanese immigrants in São Paulo, Brazil, focusing on their interconnections with the representations of the body configured from stereotypes, concept of national identity, collective memory of immigrants, and ethno-racial categories.
Since 2017 she has been developing research on bio-politics and the use of bio-technologies, in particular with regard to representations of the female body and reproductive and sexual life.
She received a post-doctoral fellowship from the Institute for Research and Innovation in Society in France (2017-2018) during which she conducted a fieldwork in several urban centers in Brazil on narratives of women and professionals of human reproduction after the Zika virus epidemic and the associated congenital syndrome.
Helena is currently a post-doc researcher hired in the IC&DT FCT project "EXCEL. The Pursuit of Excellence. Biotechnologies, enhancement and body capital in Portugal" (PTDC/SOC-ANT/30572/2017) coordinated by Principal Investigator Chiara Pussetti.
