RECIPIENTS

This School is aimed at students, academics, archivists, audiovisual and cultural professionals, journalists, primary and secondary school teachers and filmmakers.

Are you an anthropologist and do you capture or would you like to capture sound and image during fieldwork? Are you a historian and use archives that include moving images? Are you a sociologist and do interviews that you would like to publish in dynamic and accessible language? Do you know the rules and conventions of cinema and audiovisual language? The ICS “Cinema and Social Sciences” School delves into these issues through three guiding axes: “Reading/Watching Cinema”, “Cinema and Archive”, and “Making Cinema”. Addressing the relationship between Cinema and Social Sciences, the sessions feature presentations on artistic creation, methods of accessing and working in archives, and academic research in the social sciences. Through the discussion of films developed by researchers, practical cases are analyzed about the value of cinema and audiovisual in disciplines such as History, Anthropology, Geography or Sociology, as well as the introductory practice of making short films.
Lasting 30 hours, the course lasts five days, and takes place in person. It is structured into theoretical sessions (presentation of concepts, discussion of topics and analysis of examples) and practical sessions (visits to relevant institutions, tutorials and exercises). Carried out individually or in small groups, these exercises may consist of preparing film analyses, written essays, short films or audiovisual compositions, to be agreed with the course coordinators.
